Back to Kirby Cove

After such an awesome time last year camping at Kirby Cove, I had some of my colleagues help me snag another campsite this summer (which involves all of us clicking “book” on the Kirby Cove website at 7AM three months before we want to camp and hoping one of us is lucky enough to get a booking!). With the slower ripening this summer, Lisa was able to join us for the entirety of our stay this time around. The kids were crazy enough to go in for a swim (the water temperature was 61F/16C!) on our first morning in camp, after which we had a fun ride across the Golgen Gate to Baker Beach and then to the Inner Richmond for dinner at Burma Superstar. I was a little worried at dinner after such a big day how we were going to get them to ride the five miles (eight kilometers) back across the bridge to the campsite, but after some awesome food at Bumra Superstar we all had an absolute blast bombing the trails through the Presidio and riding across the Golden Gate at sunset. Such a hoot!

The McGees joined us for the second and third nights of our stay at Kirby, great to have them along with their little guy to enjoy the campground with Max and Lilia. We scored some amazing weather on our second day at camp, bluebird skies and classic SF late-summer warmth for a day in the Mission at Dolores Park followed by dinner at Mission Chinese with Suzanne. Such fun!

On our last morning I planned a bit of a downhill shuttle run down the southern side of Mount Tamalpais to Muir Beach. Dias Ridge is a trail I’ve ridden up many times over the years, but I thought it’d be mellow enough for the kids to tackle as a downhill and then spend some time at Muir Beach while I rode back up to get the truck. They both rode it like champs, getting lots of hoots and hollers from other riders on the trail. Such a great weekend, and so nice to have Mum along with us before harvest gets in full swing!

  1. I love the pics.
Looks like you guys had a ball and great that the Boss got to tag along as well.
    Big love xx

  2. Such memorable adventures, and, yes you sure did score some beautiful weather. I wonder what percentage of the local population has seen the bridge from that vantage.
