The 2025 Sugar Bowl Pond Skim

One last weekend of the ski season for us. No way we were going to miss the Sugar Bowl pond skim for two years in a row so we rallied the neighbors to keep an eye on the sheep back in Sonoma and jetted up to the mountains for Easter weekend. The pond skim is such a fun event: costumes of all sorts – for competitors and spectators alike – litter the slopes all day and it’s impossible not to get wrapped up in the party atmosphere at the base of Disney. There were some very accomplished pond skimmers this year, and equally as many spectacular wipeouts. I think I’m going to sign up next season, I need to start working on Lilia to join me… I have a feeling Kevin Taylor might be along for the ride as well!

It was our second Easter in a row up at Powder Haus, was fun that both kids – especially our teen – were still very much involved with the egg dying and even asked us to hide eggs for them around the house on Easter Sunday. I can sadly say the Easter Bunny unfortunately no longer visits the Valtenbergs household, but the egg hunt is not going to die!

The mountain was almost empty on Easter Sunday, with temps in the low fifties I was in a t-shirt for some touring on the spring slush. Such a nice this time of year up in the Sierras with snow still covering the peaks and very pleasant spring temps. A great way to cap off the 2024/2025 season…
