President’s Day at Powder Haus

Another atmospheric river blessed us in the days before President’s Day long weekend, and unlike the warm temps that came with the atmospheric rivers a week-or-two ago this one had snow levels well below the resort base. It was high moisture content snow typical of the storms that spin in from the southwest, but with almost four feet of fresh over the span of about 36 hours it made for lots of smiles on the slopes.

Kevin and Ben Taylor joined us for a couple of days over the long weekend, was great to have them up to Powder Haus again after quite a few fun days on the slopes with them last season. The storm passed the day before they arrived and I honestly thought the snow would be cooked for their first day on the slopes, but the temps remained cold and the conditions for their arrival were absolutely phenomenal: groomers that were like carving a hot knife through cold butter and endless powder from the storm that was still a ton of fun to ski. Max, Kevin and I spent a chunk of the morning on Saturday hucking off everything in sight under Crow’s Peak chair into the pillowy snow, Max was pretty enamored at having another dad around that was willing to take even more risk than his own old man when it came to cliffs and rock drops!

Conditions were a little mixed for our last day on the slopes: a few inches of fresh snow overnight made for a great start to the day, but some freezing rain put a stop to the good conditions real fast. The sun came out at lunch, however, and made for a fantastic finish to the long weekend: wind blown pow in some pockets under Disney and plenty of laps in the terrain park for the kids (and Kevin!). A super fun little escape to the mountains, so great when conditions align with long weekends!
