“What do you want to do for your birthday, Max?” We were expecting a response along the lines of, “A birthday party at X with A, B, C and D…” Nope. All he wanted to do was take Ben Taylor to Woodward at Boreal for a day of mountain biking, parkour, skateboarding and, most importantly, a session practicing flips in The Bunker. A boy after my heart! So, one last weekend at Powder Haus before school goes back next week.
The boys were absolutely frothing in the car as we rolled into Woodward, big talk about how many flips they were going to be doing on the tramps and their plans for crushing all the drops on the mountain biking trails. Some quiet smiles from me in the front. They went 110% for close to four hours, starting out on the chairlift MTB trails, followed by an intense two hour session in The Bunker and winding up with about half an hour in the indoor skatepark. So fun to watch them flip and spin on the tramps and into the foam pits, they were in absolute heaven. Little Ben was very impressive on the trampolines with his backflips, I lost count of how many he did in a row. Max was pretty pumped with himself at his mastery of front flips and backflips, too (I hate to imagine what that means for the coming ski season…).
We finished up Wild Man’s birthday with happy hour at RMU followed by dinner at Burger Me down in Truckee (Max’s request). They do make an excellent burger down there, and Gramps was very excited about the fact they use malted milk powder in their shakes. The rest of the weekend was filled with the usual: mountain biking, a river float with Gramps and Kathi as well as a morning wood splitting session in prep for the coming winter. Good times.
Wish I’d had a birthday like that one. Righteous fun! Hope to see Max in Olympics one day?
