I can only do so much spring skiing, so took the opportunity to join the climbers as part of this year’s Sugar Bowl Uphiller. The annual event challenges skiers and boarders to as many laps of the resort as they can – from Judah Base to the top of Lincoln – in a six hour timeframe. I managed three climbs for a total of 4,209 feet of vertical, I think I maybe could have managed one more but would have ended up with a big blister on my right heel and probably would have had to be carried home! There were some incredible athletes with nordic setups taking part, these guys – most of them at least a decade older then me – were pretty much running up the pitches. When I tapped out there was one gent that had lapped the resort eight times for more than 10,000 feet of vertical. Very impressive.
GREAT job on your accomplishment of vertical gain for 4209 ft. What a beautiful for day for uphill skiing!!! I assume you all were using skins??? I couldn’t tell by looking at the skis. Rest of family enjoying downhill spring ?.
Yup, skins on touring skis on the way up.
