This next round of storms were borderline: much warmer than the blower pow delivered by last week’s onslaught, but we had a free weekend so rolled the dice. Saturday was fun, but the couple of inches that did fall had incredibly high water content – classic Sierra cement – so there wasn’t a lot of skiing in the trees with so little new snow covering the frozen crud from earlier in the week. Regardless, Max had a blast (Lilia was back at the cabin with the stomach bug Max had a week-or-so ago) and we found some great stashes in the tress off the top of Lincoln.
Mother nature delivered Saturday night: officially seven inches of fresh snow by Sugar Bowl’s measure, but there was definitely a lot more in the windblown areas up high. Lilia was still out of sorts so missed out again, but Lisa, Max and I were on the chair at 8:56AM and scored some incredibly fun fresh tracks down Jerome Hill before the crowds arrived. Still very high moisture content in the snow but a ton of fun. Later in the morning we happened to be riding up Lincoln when the ski patrol dropped the ropes into Sisters; I was the fourth or fifth skier in and scored fresh tracks all the way down Sisters and Steilhang. Incredible. Boot- to knee-deep all the way and not a track anywhere. Max had me take him through the ropes up higher into double blacks Fulley’s Folly and Hidden Gully, he handled it fine but I think the chutes and cliffs everywhere scared the bejesus out of him. I received a quick shake of his head when I asked him if he wanted to do it again. Good times.
Amazing adventure!
