Wild Man and I headed up to the mountains last week in advance of the Independence Day long weekend, Finn Cullerton and his fam were up on the summit so it was a great opportunity to Finn and Max to spend some of their summer break together after not seeing each other since the Sugar Bowl Academy winter quarter wound up in April. I managed to catch up on work during the early hours each day, and we filled the afternoons with paddle boarding, fishing, swimming and a few great rides…
The girls joined us on Wednesday evening after both of them were done with work for the week. More riding and a great day on Lake Tahoe with the paddle boards on Thursday… I think the the Overflow trail from the peak of Disney at Sugar Bowl may be my new favorite descent on the summit. I have yet to conquer the brutal climb – I can’t quite stay in the saddle around one nasty, steep switchback on the edge of MacTavish – but the way down was a hell of a lot of fun!
We joined Finn and his family for a Tainted Love concert in the Disney meadow at Sugar Bowl on Friday night. Lisa and I have been enjoying their concerts for more than 20 years so it was an exceedingly fun way to celebrate the long weekend dancing the night away to the best of the eighties under the stars. We also took Finn on his first tube float on Saturday, the atmosphere was 100% party as throngs of thousands of rivergoers flocked to the cool water of the Truckee on Independence Day. The boys had a blast getting into countless water fights with their water cannon, and we all had a few laughs at the casualties we witnessed in the rapids. To cap it all off we enjoyed watching the fireworks over Donner Lake from the granite viewing platforms of Donner Summit, what a great week!
