Crazy to think summer is almost over… Seems like only yesterday we were winding up with school and getting ready to head to Idaho for the Young McClain wedding. Milo and Natalia joined the kids and me at Powder Haus for one last hurrah, it was magic weather up in the mountains for the week of our stay, nice to get away from the heat in Sonoma County for a few days.
Always at the top of everyone’s list during the warmer months is a float down the Truckee from Tahoe City, and with temps in the high eighties in the Tahoe basin it was very nice to cool off in the water for the afternoon. I lost both my GoPro and my hat in rapids during the float, but fortunately realized quickly both times and made quick recoveries (kudos to Lilia on the hat, she saw it floating down the river between us…).
We also met up with Paris one morning for a round of disc golf. Poor guy has been on injured reserve for the past month following a mountain biking accident where he broke his wrist, and hasn’t even been able to swim laps because the surgical incision wasn’t allowed to be submerged. With disc golf as his only summer activity – only needs to use is uninjured hand – he was pumped to get a few holes in with us one morning before the heat set in. We spent an afternoon on Lake Tahoe to wind things up for the week, it was scorching on the sand and we all had to reapply sunscreen twice to prevent ourselves from getting singed. One last Truckee Thursday for dinner, and that’s all she wrote for summer 2026!
