Black Saturday Bushfires

The photos below are from the firestorm that destroyed a number of towns in the hills surrounding Melbourne last Saturday.  A terrible day in Australia’s history: 46.4°C with strong winds, the hottest day ever recorded in an Australian capital city.  Over 200 people are confirmed dead with another 100 missing and every building completely destroyed in some towns.  Most were incinerated in their homes or cars; they did not stand a chance of survival as the fire was moving so fast with winds of 100 kilometers per hour and a wall of flame 30 meters high, and spot fires jumping 15 kilometers ahead of the main fire. The bushfires are still burning out of control this week although nothing like last Saturday.  Pretty sad stuff, definitely the shitz…

Ben Kennare sent these shots over.
